UA GREEK LIFE FACTS A Student
Life tradition since 1873 with the establishment first campus fraternity,
The University of Akron boasts some of the oldest Greek chapters in the
nation. With 4% of the undergraduate student population, UA Greeks boast
that: |
||
| • 60% of UA Greek members are active leaders in organizations outside their chapters. | ||
| • The all-sorority and all-fraternity academic averages are above the all-women’s and all-men’s averages. | ||
| • Three governing Councils organize and represent our
22 chapters. They are: Interfraternity Council (IFC – 11 fraternities) National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC – 6 historically African-American fraternities and sororities) Panhellenic Council (PHC – 5 sororities) |
||
| • NPHC “recruitment” is called Intake and is coordinated individually by each chapter at various times during the year. | ||
| • Greek Life has 3 academic/leadership honoraries: Gamma Sigma Alpha Order of Omega Rho Lambda |
||
| • Greek Programming Committee (GPC) organizes traditional all-Greek events, such as Songfest, Greek Week, Mocktails, Greek Nights at the JAR and Rubberbowl, The Alphabet Greek Newsletter, and the award-winning Adopt-A-School program. | ||
| • In one academic year UA Greeks served approximately 13,000 hours in community service endeavors. | ||
| • Nationally, Greeks tend to graduate and remain in
college at a higher rate than non-Greek members. After graduation, Greek
alumni tend to be more involved in civic organizations and activities than
non-Greek alumni. |
