Greek Village In 2002 Dr. Paul E. Martin, UA Phi Delta Theta alumnus, generously funded The University of Akron Greek Village Feasibility Study. This Study created a working concept for a three-block area where a significant number of Greek chapters, a Greek Village Center, and shared activity space will exist. Greek Village Position Statement The University of Akron recognizes the value of the Greek community through a historical partnership of creating student leaders, committed alumnae and alumni, and enhancing the campus community. Fraternity and sorority chapters share a long history interwoven in the fabric of The University of Akron, where chapters continue to value academic success, community, leadership, service, and involvement. The University of Akron desires to enhance and use this foundation of the past to enhance the future of our Greek community. The Greek Village concept strengthens the educational opportunities and experiences of members of fraternities and sororities, and provides foundations for the future. In concert with the University’s Landscape for Learning, a Greek Village would enable the Greek community to recruit and retain students, provide more opportunities for student success, provide an environment conducive to telling the story, and enhance the campus community. A new Greek Village will meet these objectives through the following aspects:
